On offer on this occasion is the rarest of the rare, it being an original, identical pair of iconic 1973 “Le Bambole LB1” Armchairs from the world renown Italian furniture house of B&B Italia.
As you will no doubt be aware by your interest in this original Mario Bellini masterpiece, B&B Italia pieces are the epitome of contemporary European furniture design, are of peerless quality, and exhibit detailing and execution of an unrivalled standard.
In a world of temporary pleasures, B&B Italia create beautiful furniture that remains a joy forever, and there can be no better illustration of this than the suite presented here.
Originally purchased in a green-canvas fabric option back in 1973, their previous owner recently spent a kings-ransom having these icons professionally restored (the original internals, base-fabric and labels were retained and re-used, and are still present and, staggeringly, it is even supplied with the original signed certificate of authentication!) and recovered in this divine vintaged chestnut-brown leather as part of a renovation project at his Belgravia home, only for them to be surplus to requirements at the end of the project. Remarkably, they remain unused since their sympathetic renovation, so are as peerless in condition as you would expect.
The hide used for this renovation is nothing short of sensational (whilst it is not the “Buffalo” leather found on other original examples of this vintage, it is one of the finest leathers available today, with a gently-distressed appearance and patina to die for, and equally handsome and refined as the 1973 leather option) and, whilst being as robust and hard-wearing as rhino skin, its softness and texture (as illustrated in the close-up image provided) is simply divine to the touch. Being the highest-grade of quality hides, its smell is an unadulterated joy too, making it nothing short of a symphony of the senses.
This suite is in pristine, perfectly-maintained condition, and is entirely free from fault, flaw or damage. Its handsome order reflects the TLC and considerate use afforded it in the past but, as you would expect when considering the nature of these floor-dwellers, the original base-cloth does show light signs of use, with the odd faint mark visible, as you would expect but, considering these pieces are over 40 years old, their appearance and condition is nothing short of miraculous!
For the avoidance of doubt, please view the numerous images provided to confirm its superb condition and appearance. Contemporary seating does not come any more beautiful than this.
In its current condition, it is certain to meet the requirements of the most fastidious of buyers and, for someone looking for a suite of high-design to position at the heart of family life, it is truly heaven sent! This superb piece possesses all the beauty and majesty you would hope for from the finest contemporary furniture money can buy.
Dimensions-wise, the measurements of each Armchair are H-80cm, W-116cm and D-100cm.
The breathtaking seating position this iconic modern-design creates is enhanced by the use of sumptuously comfortable, generously upholstered back and seat cushioning, which leaves you powerless to resist its charms. Truly first-class accommodation.
Costing in excess of £6,000 if bought today (and this, being an original 1973 suite, is undoubtedly more desirable than the current incarnation offered by B&B Italia and, such is its rarity, is only likely to appreciate in value going forward, so represents a canny investment opportunity too), it represents spectacular value for money, and we have no doubt it will serve and delight its new owner for many years to come.
Delivery of this suite to most UK mainland addresses will cost £150, and can be organised on behalf of the winning bidder upon request using one of our hand-picked panel of specialist, fully-insured independent furniture couriers.
