Rare George Smith “Standard-Arm” Large 6-Seat L-Shape Sofa in Turkish Woolen Kilims

Price - £6900 SOLD
On offer on this occasion is, quite possibly, the only sofa you might ever need to buy.

This is an ultra-rare opportunity to acquire what is, unequivocally, the best of the best, it being a most remarkable, used George Smith Signature “Standard-Arm” Cushion-Back, Large 6-Seat L-Shape Sofa, dressed in their iconic breathtaking, peerless Turkish Woollen Kilims in a myriad-mixture of warm, earthy, natural hues, and with tapered Mahogany legs with brass castors.
As you will no doubt be aware by your interest in this listing, George Smith pieces are the epitome of classic English furniture design, are of peerless quality, and exhibit detailing and execution of an unrivalled standard, and there can be few more spectacular examples of their expertise than this rarely-found, special-order L-Shape creation.

In a world of temporary pleasures, George Smith create beautiful furniture built to last a lifetime, with there being no finer, or more beautifully appointed, example of their work than this.
This piece is in spectacular, original condition, having seen regular employment since its costly purchase many-moons ago. As the images will attest, it is entirely free from fault, flaw or damage and, having aged gracefully, is as effortlessly-elegant as is possible to imagine, with the colours a little more relaxed and demure than they would have been the day it left George Smith’s Cramlington Factory.

That said, those of you familiar with this intentionally-relaxed covering choice will understand that these loose-woven woollen Kilims are wonderfully-imperfect by nature so, for those who demand precision and structure in their seating, this nonchalant, natural piece may not quite meet such lofty requirements. However, for someone looking for a sofa of peerless quality and execution possessing huge personality and impact to position at the heart of their home, this handsome brute is nothing short of heaven-sent!

Please view the images provided closely to confirm its impeccable condition and majestic appearance. Supremely vintaged at present, this already-antiqued covering is guaranteed to become more handsome through the acquisition of further marks, wear and patina across the passing years.
It is worthy of mention that the back of both sections of this sofa is entirely without kilim fabric as, when created by George Smith, it was commissioned for use with the back against walls/brickwork whre the back would never be visible so, at present, both sections possess black barrier-cloth across the back, but no kilim. Should this piece be purchased for use as originally designed, this fact will cause no issue but, if purchased for use in a location where the rear of the sofa is visible, we will work with the buyer to ensure that this matter is fully-addressed by the upholstering of these back-areas by our master-upholsterer in a suitable fabric consistent with the buyers tastes and requirements.
This sofa’s dimensions are an impressive H-86cm, W-246cm x 246cm and D-106cm, and the breathtaking seating position this iconic English design creates is enhanced by the use of sumptuously comfortable, generously feather-filled back and seat cushions, which leaves you powerless to resist its charms. Not only does it possess an aesthetic to die for, but it is soooooooooooooooooooooo comfortable too! Truly first-class accommodation.

Costing in excess of £16,000 when new, it represents spectacular value for money, and we have no doubt it will serve and delight its new owner for many years to come.

Delivery of this piece to most UK mainland addresses will cost £180, and can be organised on behalf of the winning bidder upon request using one of our hand-picked panel of specialist, fully-insured independent furniture couriers.
